Oxytetracycline is a bacteriocidal antibiotic of wide spectrum. It acts on Gram positive and Gram negative microorganisms, particularly sensitive on it streptococci, clostridia, E.coli, shigellae, brucellae, salmonellae, leptospirae etc. In addition, it is efficient against some mycoplasmas, rickettsiae, chlamydiae, some protozoa and large viruses.
Oxytetracycline acts on microorganisms in such a way that it is bound to 30-S subunit of ribosome and thus preventing binding of amino uracil of RNA for its acceptance site, and therefore further process of proteins synthesis in microorganisms is being disabled.
After single administration of therapeutic dose of preparation Oxytetracycline hydrochloride Injection 20%, within about thirty minutes up to 12 hours, a high level of Oxytetracycline in blood has been achieved, while its therapeutic concentration has been maintained for three days.
